affection and tractability to discipline
make him a highly desirable compan-
ion. Faults--Lack of dignity and alert-
ness. Shyness.
Poodle
That of a very active, intelligent and
elegant-appearing dog, squarely built,
well proportioned, moving soundly
and carrying himself proudly. Properly
clipped in the traditional fashion and
carefully groomed, the Poodle has
about him an air of distinction and
dignity peculiar to himself.
Carrying himself proudly, very active,
intelligent, the Poodle has about him
an air of distinction and dignity pecu-
liar to himself. Major fault: shyness or
sharpness.
Rottweiler
The ideal Rottweiler is a medium
large, robust and powerful dog, black
with clearly defined rust markings. His
compact and substantial build denotes
great strength, agility and endurance.
Dogs are characteristically more mas-
sive throughout with larger frame and
heavier bone than bitches. Bitches are
distinctly feminine, but without weak-
ness of substance or structure.
The Rottweiler is basically a calm, con-
fident and courageous dog with a self-
assured aloofness that does not lend
itself to immediate and indiscriminate
friendships. A Rottweiler is self-confi-
dent and responds quietly and with a
wait-and-see attitude to influences in
his environment. He has an inherent
desire to protect home and family, and
is an intelligent dog of extreme hard-
ness and adaptability with a strong
willingness to work, making him espe-
cially suited as a companion, guard-
ian and general all-purpose dog.
The behavior of the Rottweiler in the
show ring should be controlled, will-
ing and adaptable, trained to submit
to examination of mouth, testicles, etc.
An aloof or reserved dog should not
be penalized, as this reflects the ac-
cepted character of the breed. An ag-
gressive or belligerent attitude towards
other dogs should not be faulted.
A judge shall excuse from the ring any
shy Rottweiler. A dog shall be judged
fundamentally shy if, refusing to stand
for examination, it shrinks away from
the judge. A dog that in the opinion
of the judge menaces or threatens
him/her, or exhibits any sign
that it may not be safely ap-
proached or examined by
the judge in the normal
manner, shall be excused
from the ring. A dog
that in the opinion of
the judge attacks any
person in the ring
shall be disquali-
fied.
Shih Tzu
The Shih Tzu is
a sturdy, lively,
alert toy dog
with long flow-
ing
double
coat. Befitting
his noble Chi-
nese ancestry
as a highly val-
ued, prized
companion
and palace
pet, the Shih
Tzu is proud
of bearing,
has a distinc-
tively arrogant carriage with head
well up and tail curved over the back.
Although there has always been con-
siderable size variation, the Shih Tzu
must be compact, solid, carrying good
weight and substance.
Even though a toy dog, the Shih Tzu
must be subject to the same require-
ments of soundness and structure
prescribed for all breeds, and any
deviation from the ideal described in
the standard should be penalized to
the extent of the deviation. Structural
faults common to all breeds are as
undesirable in the Shih Tzu as in any
other breed, regardless of whether
or not such faults are specifically
m e n -
tioned in the standard.
A s
the sole purpose of the
Shih Tzu is that of a com-
panion and house pet, it is
essential that its tempera-
ment be outgoing, happy,
affectionate, friendly and
trusting towards all.
