eople ask me all the time what it is like to
be a glamour and fashion photographer.
When asked that, I smile and think to
myself, “This is one of the best jobs in the world.”
How could it not be? I get to work with the most
beautiful, sensual women in the world to create
images that capture the beauty and mood of that
very special person in front of the camera . . ., and
then I get to share those wonderful images with the
world!
Several years ago, I turned my passion for photog-
raphy from a hobby to a profession and developed
Studio 63 – glamour, fashion, portrait and beach
photography company with locations in Phila-
delphia, PA and Long Beach Island, NJ. Turning
professional significantly raised my commitment to
be successful as a photographer, but even more so,
it raised my awareness of what it takes for models
to be successful. I owe much of my success as a
glamour and fashion photographer to not only creat-
ing beautiful images for model portfolios and their
clients, but also in developing ways to help models
succeed at what they do best.
What does it take a photographer to be successful
in a world full of amateur and professional pho-
tographers? The answer is . . . be different . . .
offer what other photographers are not offering. At
Studio 63, we enhance all of the model’s best shots
and give them to the model in a digital format.
Our enhancements accentuate the best features of
the model creating bright eyes, clear skin, silky hair,
etc. As part of their shoot, we also produce a video
slideshow of their shoot that includes beautifully
formatted slides and choreographed music. Models
love these videos and often use them as part of their
marketing promotion.
Although these things add value to working with
Studio 63, there are other things that are critical to
both our success and the success of the model. The
first is honesty. Through communications with the
models prior to the photoshoot, we set expectations
up-front so that we can achieve all of the goals for
the shoot. The second is trust. There is a significant
amount of distrust in the modeling industry for a
variety of reasons. At Studio 63, we take pride in
providing a fun, safe and comfortable photoshoot.
We often give our models a choice of where we
can shoot, including their own home.
At Studio 63, we also offer opportunities for success
for the models we shoot. Through networking, we
find opportunities where our models can advance
their career and find paid jobs. Often we refer our
models to other photographers, organizers, advertis-
ers and publications. This is part of the service that
we provide for models that shoot with us.
Our feature model in this pictorial is The Grand
Dutchess. We shot her in mid-October in her home
in New Jersey. The Grand Dutchess and I quickly
developed rapport and trust and had a very pro-
ductive and fun shoot. The Grand Dutchess is not
only a beautiful, classy and experienced model, she
is also an actress who has signed for lead parts
in two upcoming movies. You can see The Grand
Dutchess’s video slideshow of our photoshoot by
