Saul Antonio Lopez
Painter
aul Antonio Lopez is from the town of El Rosario within the
Department of La Paz in El Salvador and now resides with wife and two sons in
New York.
His artistic development started at an early age observing the comic strips that
appeared in the weekend newspaper. He was decided to draw like what appeared
in the newspaper. He was inspired mostly by his god brother and his friend’s
landscaping painting and determined to the same. That is how his interest in
painting began.
The journey was not easy, like most of towns in Central America, there was no
reference about art and the materials like paint, watercolors, and paper was dif-
ficult to get, only in city of San Salvador could be find.
Saul improvised with cardboard boxes
and plywood; these were his initial
means to develop his creativity into
painting.
Overtime he decides to learn more
about art by answering an article in the
newspaper from Modern Schools. This
was complicate because Mr. Lopez
has to travel to the capital city of San
Salvador and the cost was expensive
which made it very hard to complete
the course.
When Saul came to New York he was
determined to re-start his journey into
painting again, however he found
many challenges. Since he was not
familiar with this great city, he did not
know where he could find the mate-
rials he needed to paint. Mr. Lopez
did find an art store in this city, even
though it was far from where he lived,
he found everything he need to get his
artist journey back in track. Saul also
took drawing and sculpture classes in
Lehman College.
