ot always found together
beauty and intelligence.
In the rare cases where this occurs,
there is an exquisite feeling of sen-
sual and intellectual pleasure.
Ro Po is capable of combining
those two virtues and offer our
readers the magic of the sage
thought, added to the visual de-
light.
Ro Po is your artistic name, with-
out telling me your real name,
what does it mean, where did
you get the inspiration for the
name?
Ro Po is just my last name, which
is hyphenated, shortened.
When did you feel that the mod-
eling was a possibility in your
life?
I really liked playing dress-up as a
kid, and I was very creative and
expressive, and when I started
college, I found myself intellectu-
ally satisfied, but not at all crea-
tively engaged, so I signed up for
Model Mayhem to see if I could
get any modeling jobs as a crea-
tive outlet.
In addition, how did you start in
the modeling world?
It was pretty young, when I started
acting and singing when I was
about ten. I had always liked to
play dress up as a kid, and the
management company had really
liked the headshots I had taken,
and so I started getting calls for
some modeling as well, but I did
not really try too hard at the mod-
eling specifically until a few years
ago. That’s when I joined Model
Mayhem and started getting a re-
ally good response and then peo-
ple started offering to pay me, so
that was shocking and amazing.
Looking back, with the experi-
ence that you have now, what do
you think has changed in your
vision of the modeling world
since you started until today?
I think I like some things about it
more and some less. I have met
many people who are so creative,
inspired, intelligent and down to
earth, and I guess I thought peo-
ple would be more shallow, to
an extent. Although, I have also
realized that there is no chang-
ing the people who are shallow.
I guess I have learned that even
though most people are amazing,
some small groups of people can
be a little gossipy, which is a huge
turn-off.
What are you majoring in?
I major in Philosophy!
How do you integrate philosophy
and your passion for modeling?
I have actually met a bunch of
photographers who are into phi-
losophy, so it’s been nice to talk
to them about it on shoots. A lot
of them also have had philosophi-
cal ideas or a message behind
specific shoot concepts, or their
style is inspired by certain philoso-
phies. I feel like it has also helped
me develop an identity, so I know
what kinds of things I do or don’t
want to shoot.
Do you think philosophy has an-
swers to questions as abstract as
the current view of the beauty,
fashion, and art in general?
Hmmm, well, I’d say philosophy
can help people to arrive more
thoughtfully at their own personal
answers to those questions, but
so many philosophers throughout
history have definitely had a lot to
say on those three things, and a
lot of it falls under the umbrella of
aesthetics.
A lot of philosophies can also give you interesting
perspective on a media source like photography in
general, so I have new ways to look at what I do.
