he index of corporal mass is equal to the relation between the weight
and the height of a patient. The weight basically is product of the quan-
tity of nutrients accumulated in the shape of grease under the skin, grease
in the abdominal cavity, skin and other corporal structures that cannot be modify
with surgeries such as are the bones, muscles and visceral organs. When we
diminish the volume of the operable structures with plastic surgery (for example
the grease under the skin with a liposuction), we lost weight transitorily. Never-
theless, due to the need to accumulate the surplus calories (what we consume
minus what we burn with physical activity) this grease will appear again in other
areas in approximately one or two years.
Understanding the above, it is expected that a patient with important
excess of fat, for example, be submitted to a liposuction to remove the
exceeds of grease under the skin of the abdomen, lose around one
or two kilograms of weight by each liter of grease aspired in
a period from a month to six months after the surgery, gains
between a 50% and a 100% of the weight lost among
The 12 and the 24 months after they had being oper-
ated. This gain weight is produced by the enlarged
size of the deposits of grease (calories that not
burn with physical activity) where was not done
any liposuction.
In this point we fall in a vicious circle because
after a lipo in the abdomen, the volume of
other corporal areas will enlarge, entering in
an unhealthy race after the grease… after 2
years, we aspire the back; after 4 years the
thighs, then the arms, etc. Without realizing
that in the end, after 3 or 4 liposuctions
with intervals of 2 years, the patient will
have the same weight, just with a different
distribution in its form.
To fully understand the processes keep in
mind this colloquial formula: the actual
weight is equal to what eat, minus what we
burn in physical activities. It does not matter
how many liposuctions we do. Take a look
at the following example: to keep a weight
of 80 kg, we consume 8 slices of bread per
day and we exercise for 8 minutes daily.
With a lipo we aspire 8 liters of grease
and we slide down to 60 kg in 6 months,
then we should adapt the consumption ac-
cording to this weight (6 slices of bread a
day) and to increase physical activity to 20
minutes for daily. Otherwise, we will return
to the 80 kg, this time distributing 20 kg in
areas that were not suctioned.
