like myself, strippers, porn stars,
or just average men and women
who like to get adventurous in
their personal sex lives.
Some public figures who are
generally considered very beauti-
ful and feminine women consider
themselves pro-sex feminists,
including some of your favorite
porn stars, models, and actresses,
such as Sasha Grey, Cindy Craw-
ford, and Margaret Cho. To
learn more about the wild world
of sex-positive feminism, you
can watch great documentaries
such as, “The Naked Feminist,”
or “Hot and Bothered: Feminist
Pornography,” which both inter-
view various porn stars who speak
openly on how their careers were
fulfilling and liberating. At times,
our culture can tend to be a bit
quiet and reserved when it comes
to sex, and separates porn and
sex from the rest of our “socially
acceptable” lives and sources of
entertainment. These documenta-
ries, however, help to bring new
pride and perspective to the sex
industry, and may help viewers
to explore and enjoy their own
sexualities a bit more. Addition-
ally, many pro-sex feminist porn
stars have their own websites that
flawlessly combine porn and opin-
ion, like two bodies intertwined.
So, if you’d like to find out if your
favorite adult actor or actress is
involved, simply take out your
laptop and Google away, if you
know what I mean, or to name a
few, Sasha Grey, Nina Hartley,
Madison Young, and Ovidie are
all as arousing as they are out-
spoken. If you’re already sold on
the concept of feminist porn and
are looking for some pictures and
videos that you can enjoy alone or
with a partner, be sure to check
out websites such as femmerotic.
com or nofauxxx.com or just type
“feminist porn” into your search
engine to explore the world of the
erotic and empowering.
Pro-sex feminism can also be
extremely helpful and enjoyable
when it comes to a more hands-on
approach to sex. I know that for
myself, growing up and trying to
explore my sexuality, all the shops
that sold sex toys were either head
shops that had a small back room,
hidden away from everything else,
or in the far back of a chain store
that did not provide much selec-
tion. It was a very sterile feeling,
akin to going to the lab for a blood
exam, and sometimes an almost
shameful feeling, like my sexuality
was supposed to be a dark secret.
There were a few basic shapes
and textures for sex toys, a few
poorly-made whips, some lube,
and extremely over-priced porn
DVDs, most of which were de-
signed strictly for a heteromascu-
line, male audience—not there is
anything wrong with that—it just
did not fit my needs or desires and
so I felt excluded and unfulfilled
sexually. Today, in many loca-
tions, there exist female-centered,
sex-positive sex shops that are
colorful, brightly-lit, welcom-
ing, and come with staff that are
knowledgeable, friendly, open,
and engaging. These shops are
enormous, lined wall-to-wall with

sex toys for
men and
women
in every
shape,
color, size,
texture,
and with
every fea-
ture imaginable available. Anoth-
er plus to these mega-sex-stores
is that they usually also have
websites that along with online
shopping, include a plethora of
resources to do with getting it on
including instructional videos and
reading material, how-to’s, gener-
al sex information, online commu-
nities, product reviews, and some
steamy pictures. Some examples
of these amazing sex shops are
Babeland, with locations in New
York City, Seattle, and Los Ange-
les, Smitten Kitten in Minneapo-
lis, Good Vibrations in Berkeley,
Boston and San Francisco, and
Sugar in Baltimore.
No matter what your gender,
sexual preference, or what sex-
ual play you enjoy, the world of
pro-sex definitely has a place for
you in it. As long as the sex is
consensual and benevolent, one
should never have to feel sexually
bored, oppressed, or settle for a
sexual style that simply does not
suit them. Where there is a taste,
there’s a porn, a toy, a costume,
and a genre to help you feel
fantastic and fulfilled, and take
it from someone who knows—a
pro-sex lifestyle can help get you
there.
