lizabeth Arias was born in Cali
Colombia, and from a very ear-
ly age she began to show signs
of her inclination for draw-
ing and painting standing out
in the field of art, and wining
many prizes in art fairs. The
professor Orlando Beltrán, a well-known
painter and caricaturist from the newspaper
El País of Cali, was the one who encouraged
her to go ahead with her paintings.
After that, in her continuous search for the
design and the dominion of color, she stud-
ied Applied Arts, that later would be called
Graphic Design, standing out as one of the
best students not only in design but also in
drawing, color, mixed techniques, charcoal,
oil and finally watercolor, technique that al-
ways called her attention.
She worked in Colombia as an illustrator,
art finalist, designer and photographer. She
elaborated the Products Shop for television
for Leo Burnett, one of the greatest agencies
of world, who has a headquarters in Cali, her
native city.
After experiencing all her potential in that
agency, she decides to establish her own
graphical design company. For more than
25 years she has offered her services to
big companies like Gillette of Colombia,
Bristol-Myers Squibb of Colombia, S.A.,
Propal S.A., Home Products - Whyhall Rob-
ins, Quaker S.A., Nutritional Industry MAI-
ZENA - Corn Products, Inter-American of
Cables and others more, where she was in
charge of: Corporative image, Digital Illus-
tration, Material for Audio-visuals and Con-
ventions, Symposiums, Formats, Manuals,
Newspapers, Magazines, Bulletins, Medi-
cal Literatures, and of course Photography,
which she enjoys as a hobby.
Later, she decided to participate in painting
workshops and was in one of those Artistic
workshops where she met and had the op-
portunity to interact styles with painters
like “Labrada”, outstanding classic painter,
“Polo”, master of the human figure, Jose
Luis Giraldo who was inclined for Stained
Glass, and finally Mario Torres Burgoa,
Chilean painter who was the one that moti-
vated her to become a painter.
In 1991 she was invited by the American
Embassy of her country to participate in a
fair in Chicago for Graphical Designers. In
the United States she has developed several
journalistic projects successfully, especially
for the Hispanic community. She has worked
for many newspapers and magazines and
currently, she works in Ibarria Media Group.
Her passion for paint still alive; she current-
ly makes watercolors and oils in canvas for
Ikarus Gallery cultural Program.
