MAGAZINE - OCTOBER 2013
I
t might have come as a shock
for you the last part of the title: lately,
right? Ok. Allow me to explain. I was
surfing the web recently looking for
movies, that you can watch and fall
in love or even maybe cry a little bit
at the end of it, and to my surprise, I
watched a parade of old movies like,
Casablanca (1942), The Apartment
(1960) or Brief Encounter (1945) as
the top seeded romantic movies, don’t
get me wrong they’re good, but do
you mean to tell me that since then we
haven’t been able to produce a really
good movie that can top those? There
was one site that had Wall-E (2008)
and Shrek (2001) as top 10’s…re-
ally? The sad part about it is that most
of those lists have a “Most romantic
movies of all time” title to it. After
that excruciating half hour search, I
decided to show you or refresh your
memories about how good are we
at love themes…lately. This is not a
countdown, it’s just a list for you to be
the judge of where does it goes on
your personal movie library.
The Notebook
(2004), with a won-
derful cast: Gena Rowlands, James
Garner, Rachel McAdams and Ryan
Gosling as main characters; is a
delicious story based on Nicholas
Sparks’ novel with the same name that
shows how love can affect your life,
to the point that, even when logic and
science says that can’t be done, you
keep on fighting for what you know
is there somewhere inside, it doesn’t
matter if it’s for only minutes.
Silver Linings Playbook
(2012),
an eight Academy Award nominated
movie about the love of a bipolar
disorder patient (Bradley Cooper) who,
after been released from the psychi-
atric hospital to his parents (Robert
De Niro, Jackie Weaver), try to regain
his life by winning back his wife, but
realized that he fell in love with the girl
(Jennifer Lawrence) who was helping
him to accomplished that. Beautiful
