Ko Phi Phi
There is no doubt you have seen this island’s lovely face before – it has
featured many times in movies and travel catalogues.
The Robinson Crusoe style romance that once drew backpackers here
in their droves may be going (some would say it has gone) but the
island is still a fascinating and charming place.
After all the sand is still as white and the sea just as emerald green, or
azure blue, as before.
If one wanted to be utterly factually correct, one would note that Kho Phi Phi is actually a small island group rather than
one single island. It consists of the main island, Kho Phi Phi Don and then a smaller neighboring island, Kho Phi Phi Leh.
The latter is where the Hollywood film, The Beach, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was filmed.
Together with anther small, nearby island, the island group makes up the 390 square kilometer Hat Noppharat Thara
Marine National Park – an ideal location for watersports of all kinds.
The infrastructure on the islands was severely damaged after the 2004 tsunami and although mostly repaired, some things
are still only slowly getting back to normal. Building work in the main town has almost been completed but occasionally,
one does still see sad evidence of the disaster on the beaches of these beautiful islands.

The days when only a few privileged rockstars

Did you know that paradise has a size?
Well it does and it’s 2,175 miles2. Para-
dise also has a name and as far as Con-
stanze G. González is concerned that
name is Bali. Here you will find beautiful
white beaches, lush green rainforests
and spectacular coral reefs
in a rainbow
of red, green
and yellow. A
more delightful
vacation experi-
ence you’ll not
find! Stars such as
Kate Moss, Cam-
eron Diaz and Mel
Gibson have also
sampled
paradise
and been well and

won over; they, among many
others,
now count themselves as regular visitors to
the dream island in the Indian Ocean. Bali
is also known as ‘The Island of the Gods’
and on the island you’ll find around 13000
temples in which you can pray for luck and
health…or perhaps inspiration for the next
fashion collection?
