ost of us know by heart some of the lines from our beloved sagas, like
“Adrien!!!”
or
“I’m too old for this $#&”
. In addition, we have used the
“I’ll be back”
line for at least once in our lifetime, but that does not mean those are the best out
there. First of all, let define the word “saga”. If you do an internet search on that word,
since that is the new dictionary, you will find these definitions: A long story of heroic
achievement, especially a medieval prose narrative in Old Norse or Old Icelandic; a
long, involved story, account or series of incidents. However, for us, cinephiles, is just
a synonym for a series of films that carry a common theme. With that been said, let me
introduce you to my Top Five Sagas.
James Bond
Yes, Bond. James Bond not Jason Bourne,
do not get it twisted. It is based on a
fictional character from a series of book
by Ian Fleming. Since its introduction in
1962, with the film titled Dr. No, the best
MI6 spy with his secret code number, 007,
wonderful gadgets and the most beautiful
women in any film series, has captivated
our hearts and with that our pockets too,
because as of today is the second high-
est grossing saga ever with a whopping
$ 6.2 billion dollars worldwide. A total
of twenty-five movies have been showed
with a dreamy cast in each one of them,
from actors like Sean Connery, Roger
Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig;
to beautiful actresses like Natalya Si-
monova, Anya Amasova, Vesper Lynd, Jill
Masterson and Halle Berry.
The Lord of the Rings
Frodo, Gandalf, Aragorn and the other
hobbits are one of the best lately. This epic
fantasy adventure film series are based on
the novel The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R.
Tolkien. The hobbits made my list because
with only three movies, not counting The
Hobbit are a top ten in the dollars depart-
ment making over $4.0 billion Washington
bills, besides director Peter Jackson made us
fall in love with characters like a white wiz-
ard, a warrior dwarf and the shire. It shows
the journey that little Frodo Baggins (Elijah
Wood) and his companions have to endure
to destroy the ring and its maker, The Dark
Lord Sauron. Viggo Mortensen, Ian Mckel-
len, Liv Tyler, Sean Austin, Cate Blanchett,
Orlando Bloom and Sean Beam are the rest
of this all-star cast.
